Stability

The most stable surfskis

Stability has two parts. Primary stability is how steady the ski feels sitting still. Secondary stability is how it behaves once it's already leaning, and that's the part that decides whether a wobble turns into a swim.

These craft have the highest stability ratings in the index. They're listed alphabetically because the ratings overlap and we can't rank them precisely. Check the speed rating too: at this end of the range, more stability usually means a slower ski.

Ratings are for a paddler at the hull's design weight. A heavier paddler makes the ski sit lower and take on more water. A lighter paddler makes it sit higher; the effect on handling varies with the hull and conditions.
