Allwave RS590

A widened version of the RS600 hull and seat, built in Italy in vacuum-bagged composite. Allwave pitches it as stable enough for beginners yet quick on flat water and at home in big, messy seas; handles at both ends and the same footplate, venturi and pedal system as the rest of the fleet.

Modelled from published beam, length and deck height. Low confidence. Speed is our rating. Both are given at the hull's own design weight. How we rate.

Stability here means how steady the ski feels sitting still on flat water. Where two craft have overlapping ranges, we can't say which is more stable. Downwind handling is a separate thing, covered in the evidence note below.

Evidence note

This band is estimated from published dimensions. Qualitative context includes 2 paddler reports and 4 linked sources.

Suits: Flat water through to choppy, confused open-ocean runs for new paddlers or anyone wanting a stable platform in rough water.

Paddler weight

The estimated sweet spot is 90–104 kg, with a broader estimated guide of 73–108 kg. This estimate is a guide, not a limit. Seat fit, conditions and paddling style matter. Lighter paddlers can still enjoy a larger hull, especially downwind. A test paddle is the best check.

Estimated from hull dimensions using a formula fitted to makers’ own paddler limits. It does not establish the designer’s intended paddler weight. How this is worked out.

Generations

~2021-present

Entry model of the RS series (RS590/RS595/RS600), derived from the RS600 shape with a wider hull and seat. A surfski.info buyer ordered a '2021 model' in early 2021. Early NZ listings quoted 51.5cm beam; Allwave Australia now lists 53cm.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Wide, stable entry hull that still has close to 6m of waterline
  • Shares the RS600's seat and footplate system, so moving up the range feels familiar
  • Four layups from 14.5kg down to full carbon

Cons

  • Published beam differs between dealers (51.5 vs 53cm)
  • Heavier than rivals in the entry Ibrida layup
  • Small dealer network outside Italy, Australia and New Zealand
