Nordic Kayaks Double 670

Relatively short (6.70m) tandem hull with pronounced rocker / keel-jump for maneuverability and quick response, plus dual steering (front, rear, or both). At 50cm beam it carries stability comparable to a single advanced ski, enough for a strong paddler to bring a less-experienced partner on a downwind. Front cockpit 155-190cm, rear 160-200cm.

Both scores are rated at the hull's own design weight. How these are derived.

Nextwave review: the NK Double is 50cm wide with 'stability about equal to the Carbonology Zest' (an advanced single), and Nordic designed it so 'a skilled paddler should be able to bring a beginner to experience a downwind' (nextwave.nu / nordickayaks.com).

Suits: Tandem ocean downwind and touring; a skilled paddler paired with a less-experienced partner

Paddler weight

This hull is built around a paddler of about 73 kg per seat. It stays workable from 64 kg to 77 kg, and sits at its best between 68 kg and 75 kg.

Derived from published hull dimensions and calibrated against manufacturer paddler limits, not taken from a marketing range. The method, in full.

Nordic's tandem surfski; short-for-a-double 6.70m hull with heavy rocker and dual steering. Nextwave reviewed the first version.

What works, and what it costs you

What works

  • Very light for a double (CarbonLite ~14kg)
  • Short, high-rocker hull is maneuverable and responsive
  • Dual steering lets front, rear, or both paddlers control

Trade-offs

  • Higher price than single skis
  • Doubles are niche; limited resale market
  • Requires a coordinated pair to paddle well downwind
