On-water profile
Both scores are rated at the hull's own design weight. How these are derived.
Suits: Custom to order - general ocean/flat-water paddling and racing depending on build.
Paddler weight
This hull is built around a paddler of about 90 kg. It stays workable from 79 kg to 96 kg, and sits at its best between 84 kg and 92 kg.
Derived from published hull dimensions and calibrated against manufacturer paddler limits, not taken from a marketing range. The method, in full.
Generations
Small Australian custom builder (Greg Slade, Central Coast NSW, Berkeley Vale). Owns the Flash molds; builds skis/kayaks to order in glass, kevlar, carbon or foam-sandwich, fully resin-infused. Not listed in surfski.wiki's maker index - niche/local rather than a mass brand. Specs below are indicative estimates, NOT a confirmed data sheet.
What works, and what it costs you
What works
- Local AU custom builder - bespoke layup/fit and repairs
- Range of materials incl. resin-infused carbon
- Good for one-off/repair needs
Trade-offs
- No published specs or pricing
- Website down at research time; small local operation
- Not a recognised mass brand - resale/support narrow
What paddlers say
Sladecraft is documented as a real Central Coast NSW custom kayak/ski builder (do-more.live activity listing, Yelp Berkeley Vale, active Facebook page) but has no meaningful presence in surfski.info/surfski.wiki race-ski discussion, consistent with a niche local shop.Reported experience
Where to buy
The SurfX Single is out of production. It turns up on the second-hand market; there is no new-boat channel for it.
Maker closed Sladecraft is no longer trading. sladecraftkayaks.com.au no longer resolves, and the site it served was last dated 2015.
Nobody sells Sladecraft new. The second-hand market is the only channel.
Custom pricing, quote-based; maker website (sladecraftkayaks.com.au) was unreachable at time of research, so no firm figures. Contact via Facebook/Central Coast NSW.
