Nordic Kayaks Storm 570
5.70m x 45cm advanced hull on the Storm platform - Nitro DNA with more stability, which Nordic bills as an 'intermediate downwind machine'. Half a metre shorter than the 615 with the same 45cm beam, so it turns and links runs more readily and gives up a little top-end flatwater speed. Short cockpit fits paddlers from about 155cm to 195cm.

On-water profile
Both scores are rated at the hull's own design weight. How these are derived.
Suits: Downwind and ocean racing for smaller or lighter advanced paddlers, plus fitness paddling on flat water
Paddler weight
This hull is built around a paddler of about 83 kg. It stays workable from 73 kg to 88 kg, and sits at its best between 77 kg and 85 kg.
Derived from published hull dimensions and calibrated against manufacturer paddler limits, not taken from a marketing range. The method, in full.
Generations
Short-cockpit sibling of the Storm, on a 5.70m hull rather than the 6.10/6.15m long-cockpit boat. Same advanced ProLine platform, sized for paddlers roughly 155-195cm.
What works, and what it costs you
What works
- Nitro-class speed with a usable margin of stability
- Shorter hull turns and catches runs more easily than the 615
- Fits smaller paddlers properly rather than swimming in a long cockpit
- Light across the layup range, from about 8.2kg in Carbon X
Trade-offs
- Still an advanced ski - 45cm beam is not a step-up boat
- Gives up flatwater top speed to the 615 and to the Nitro
- Carbon-only pricing
- Thin second-hand market in Australia
What paddlers say
Nordic Kayaks copy: the Storm is 'an advanced surfski sharing the same features as our Nitro models, but with a little more stability... in experienced hands, it is a pure surfing machine' (nordickayaks.com).Reported experience
