Zedtech Griffin ++

5.9m x 45cm ocean ski launched at the end of 2009, sold in carbon at a published 10kg. Shorter and slightly wider than the Dominator, and the model Zedtech pushed hardest outside Portugal — Bergmann Kayak imported the "++" version into Norway.

Both scores are rated at the hull's own design weight. How these are derived.

Rated from the community chart's 45cm beam and 5.9m length against this index's own scale, not from a paddle test. 45cm is the intermediate band here; the short waterline for that beam holds the speed rating down.

Suits: Coastal racing and downwind, and a manageable size to car-top and launch alone.

Paddler weight

This hull is built around a paddler of about 85 kg. It stays workable from 75 kg to 90 kg, and sits at its best between 79 kg and 87 kg.

Derived from published hull dimensions and calibrated against manufacturer paddler limits, not taken from a marketing range. The method, in full.

Generations

2009-2010s

Zedtech built handmade composite kayaks and surfskis in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. The Dominator arrived in March 2009 as the brand's long-distance ocean ski and the Griffin followed that December; a Lightning and an XL version of the Dominator widened the range to four before the brand went quiet.

What works, and what it costs you

What works

  • Published 10kg carbon weight is light for its era
  • Short enough to handle alone
  • Sold in Norway as well as Iberia, so boats turn up in Europe

Trade-offs

  • Brand is gone: no parts, no warranty, no dealer
  • Short waterline for the beam
  • Ten-year-old composite needs inspecting before you buy

What paddlers say

No independent owner review located as of August 2026. Bergmann Kayak in Norway and the Portuguese surfski blogs are the surviving record of the model.Reported experience

Where to buy

The Griffin ++ is out of production. It turns up on the second-hand market; there is no new-boat channel for it.

Maker closed Zedtech is no longer trading. zedtech.pt no longer resolves and no dealer lists the range. The boats survive in community charts and classifieds.

Nobody sells Zedtech new. The second-hand market is the only channel.

Zedtech has not traded for years, so there is no current price. Second-hand boats turn up in Portugal, Spain and Norway.
