21ft x 17in (43.2cm) all-around race hull with a continuous taper to its widest point behind the seat and only ~14in at the pedals; smooth rounded cross-section, no hard chines, and a distinctively low fore deck. Secondary stability comparable to a 19in ski when heeled.

Generations

2003-present

Introduced fall 2003; Huki's flagship all-around race ski (the '17in x 21ft Big Dog'). First Huki hull developed with computer/CAD design by Jerry Montgomery and Jude Turczynski. Custom hand-built to order; long continuous production.

Pros and cons

  • Low fore deck makes a wetter, pearl-prone ride in steep close chop, especially for heavy paddlers
