## Specifications
- Length: 6.2 m

- Deck height: 34.6 cm
- Layup weights: Ultra 11.7 kg, Elite 10.6 kg
- Usually paddled by: Confident ocean paddlers

## Ratings (Surfski Index estimates)
- Stability band 4–6 out of 10 (dimension estimate, low confidence).
- Speed rated 9 out of 10.

Modelled from published beam, length and deck height. Low confidence. Speed is our rating. Both are given at the hull's own design weight.

These ratings are Surfski Index estimates, worked out from published dimensions, traced hull shapes where we have them, and reviews. They are not supplied by the maker or timed on the water. How a ski feels depends on your weight, skill, set-up and the conditions, so use them to shortlist skis and paddle one before you buy. Method: https://surfskiindex.com/how-it-works/#limits

Evidence note: This band is estimated from published dimensions. Qualitative context includes 3 paddler reports and 5 linked sources.

## Paddler weight
Estimated sweet spot 78–90 kg, broader estimated guide 63–94 kg. An estimate from hull dimensions, not the designer's intended weight.

## Suits
Best in open-water downwind/mixed chop; also competent on flat water. Epic markets it explicitly as a big-downwind race weapon.

## Hull
Shorter, higher-rocker hull than the V14 with a V11-derived cockpit; bow refined to resist burying/pearling and pops back quickly when submerged. Designed to surf runs longer and accelerate out of troughs faster than the V10, favoring maneuverability and wave-linking over outright top-end flat-water speed.

## What works
- Faster than the V10 on flat water while handling downwind chop better than the V14
- Refined bow rarely buries even in confused conditions, pops back quickly when it does
- V11-derived cockpit gives a drier ride than earlier V12 generations
- Turns 'on a dime' per Epic due to shorter Gen 3 length and added rocker
- Multiple Molokai World Championship wins across generations

## Trade-offs
- Still an advanced/elite ski - not forgiving for developing paddlers
- Premium pricing similar to the V14 despite being the 'more stable' option in the elite pair
- TC Surfski reviewer notes it hasn't definitively supplanted purpose-built downwind skis like the Vega

## Generations
- 2010-2014 (Gen 1): Original V12, wider/more stable elite ski than the V14, aimed at advanced/elite paddlers wanting downwind speed with more forgiveness than the V14.
- 2015-2020 (Gen 2): Became the surfski of choice for many sponsored Epic athletes at Gorge Downwind Champs, even over the V14, per Paddle Dynamics review.
- 2021-present (Gen 3): Shorter (20'4"/6.20m vs prior gens), more rocker, V11-derived cockpit for a drier ride, more responsive rudder position, designed as ultimate downwind machine; more stable than the V14.

## What paddlers say
- 'It is always game to chase after a better wave... I've almost never buried the bow, and when it does start to submerge, it pops back quickly' - Nick, TC Surfski review of Gen 3
- 'The V12 Gen 2 was the surfski of choice for all of the sponsored Epic riders over even the V14 and new V11' at Gorge Downwind Champs - Paddle Dynamics review
- Forum poster (AR_convert, surfski.info): his marathon-racing buddy who normally paddles a V12 found the V14's bucket 'narrower than the V12... which pinched him a bit'
