## Specifications

## Ratings (Surfski Index estimates)
- Stability band 6–8 out of 10 (dimension estimate, low confidence).
- Speed rated 7 out of 10.

Modelled from published beam, length and deck height. Low confidence. Speed is our rating. Both are given at the hull's own design weight.

These ratings are Surfski Index estimates, worked out from published dimensions, traced hull shapes where we have them, and reviews. They are not supplied by the maker or timed on the water. How a ski feels depends on your weight, skill, set-up and the conditions, so use them to shortlist skis and paddle one before you buy. Method: https://surfskiindex.com/how-it-works/#limits

Evidence note: This band is estimated from published dimensions. Qualitative context includes 3 paddler reports and 4 linked sources.

## Paddler weight
Estimated sweet spot 82–95 kg, broader estimated guide 67–99 kg. An estimate from hull dimensions, not the designer's intended weight.

## Suits
All-round: strong flat-water speed for its stability class plus solid rough-water/downwind handling; Epic notes newcomers can handle it in calm water but should step down to a V9 for very rough downwind days.

## Hull
20ft x 18.9in hull, similar rocker/volume distribution to the full V10 but with a touch more stability and a shorter waterline than the 4G; wide hip room, fully adjustable self-adjusting foot pedals, and the 4-position foot bailer on Gen 3+.

## What works
- Excellent flat-water speed for an intermediate-stability hull
- Strong rough-water/downwind performance across all generations
- Wide paddler-size range (5'0"-6'7")
- Foot-operated 4-position bailer (Gen 3+) and side carry handles (Gen 3+)
- Large used market historically (older gens can be a bargain entry point)

## Trade-offs
- Naming/lineage confusing - current-market boat is really 'V10 4G', not a direct Gen-4 'Sport'
- Gen 1/Gen 2 used examples lack handles and have an inferior bailer, feel noticeably less stable
- Not currently orderable new in the US (sold out) and delisted in AU under this name
- Requires more skill than the V9/V8 Pro in very rough downwind conditions

## Generations
- ~2010-2012 (Gen 1): Original design; no side carry handles, older-style bailer; paddlers describe it as noticeably less stable than later gens.
- ~2012/2013-2016 (Gen 2): Redesigned hull stamped '2013 design' on the stern; improved stability over Gen 1 but still lacked side handles and the current bailer; era of the now-discontinued 'Club/blue-tip' entry layup.
- ~2017-2022 (Gen 3): Added side carry handles and Epic's 4-position foot-operated bailer system; 'current generation provides more stability and a slightly longer waterline' per Epic's own copy.
- 2023-present (V10 4G): Increased rocker and a finer, lower-volume V12-3G-style nose for improved downwind surfing; Epic's AU site now sells this as 'V10 (Generation 4)' rather than 'V10 Sport', while the US site still lists a separate, mostly sold-out 'V10 Sport' SKU - naming has become inconsistent between markets.

## What paddlers say
- 'I find the Gen1 V10S really unstable relative to the Gen2' - TC SURF SKI downunder, surfski.info forum
- 'I raced the Sport for around 3 years and was competitive against all the top-end skinny skis in my age group... average just under 15km/hr on downwind, on the flat I could sprint just as fast as anyone else. This is not a slow ski by any standard' - Ranga, surfski.info forum
- 4G review: 'Each iteration of the V10 has led to increased stability - and I find this one phenomenally stable... the biggest change is a nose similar to the V12 3G: finer, less volume' - Rob Mousley, surfski.info review of the V10 4G
