## Specifications
- Length: 7.1 m

- Deck height: 40 cm
- Layup weights: Super Ultra 17 kg, Super Elite 13.5 kg
- Usually paddled by: Paddlers in chop

## Ratings (Surfski Index estimates)
- Stability band 7–9 out of 10 (dimension estimate, low confidence).
- Speed rated 7 out of 10.

Modelled from published beam, length and deck height. Low confidence. Speed is our rating. Both are given at the hull's own design weight.

These ratings are Surfski Index estimates, worked out from published dimensions, traced hull shapes where we have them, and reviews. They are not supplied by the maker or timed on the water. How a ski feels depends on your weight, skill, set-up and the conditions, so use them to shortlist skis and paddle one before you buy. Method: https://surfskiindex.com/how-it-works/#limits

Evidence note: This band is estimated from published dimensions. Qualitative context includes 1 paddler report and 4 linked sources.

## Paddler weight
Estimated sweet spot 86–99 kg per seat, broader estimated guide 70–103 kg. An estimate from hull dimensions, not the designer's intended weight.

## Suits
Suits one expert + one novice in moderate conditions, two experts in advanced downwind ocean conditions, or two intermediate/advanced paddlers in moderate seas; not recommended for two complete beginners (Epic points those buyers to the V8 Double).

## Hull
Long tandem hull with increased rocker (Gen 2) versus Gen 1 to promote early planing on downwind runs, a redesigned low-windage bow, and a wider (51.5cm) beam than any single V10 variant for the stability needed to carry two paddlers.

## What works
- Gen 2's added rocker and redesigned bow noticeably improve downwind surfing and reduce bow-digging over Gen 1
- Integrated side handles make carrying and open-water remounts much easier for two paddlers
- Versatile enough to pair a beginner with an expert yet still race competitively with two strong paddlers
- Individually closeable bailers in both cockpits for flat-water speed or quick draining

## Trade-offs
- At 51.5cm beam and 7.1m length still demands real coordination between the two paddlers, especially in bigger swell
- Heaviest and most expensive boat in the range - transport and storage are a big commitment
- Gen 2 AU pricing/weights explicitly marked 'to be confirmed', so early buyers face some uncertainty
- Turning a double is inherently harder than a solo ski

## Generations
- 2016-2025 (Gen 1): Epic's high-performance tandem, faster than the V8 Double but with less stability margin; positioned for one expert + one intermediate, or two experienced paddlers.
- 2026-present (Gen 2): Hull reworked for a 'significant boost in stability' over Gen 1, increased rocker throughout to stop the bow digging in and help the boat plane earlier, redesigned bow to shed water/reduce windage, added side carry handles, updated ergonomic seats with a lower knee hump, closeable bailers standard in both cockpits.

## What paddlers say
- Rob Mousley (Cape Town, quoted on Epic's own product page - six months on the Gen 2): 'It truly is a remarkable boat; more stable than the older model, but even more nimble... stable enough that I can take a beginner in the back, yet fast enough for experienced paddlers to do a sub-40min Miller's Run.' (Sourced from Epic's marketing copy, so treat as a positive-skewed testimonial.)
