# Surfski Index > An independent index of 261 surfskis from 39 makers. Maker paddler-weight guidance takes precedence. Where it is missing, hull dimensions provide an estimated fit range. These estimates help choose skis to try; they do not establish the designer's intended paddler weight or rule out paddlers outside the range. The site sells nothing, holds no stock and takes no commission; every price and dealer link points somewhere else. Stability is published as an evidence band out of 10 at the hull's own design weight. On 39 craft the metacentric height and waterline beam are solved from traced beam and depth curves, producing a one-point band with medium confidence. Untraced craft are estimated from published beam, length and deck height and receive a wider low-confidence band. Each craft page names the evidence; overlapping bands mean there is no defensible order. Exact working values remain internal for calibration and reproducibility. Speed is our rating out of 10. Prices are new-boat list prices in AUD and USD, indicative only, and go stale. 63 craft are out of production and kept for reference; they are excluded from browse and the finder by default. These ratings are Surfski Index estimates, worked out from published dimensions, traced hull shapes where we have them, and reviews. They are not supplied by the maker or timed on the water. How a ski feels depends on your weight, skill, set-up and the conditions, so use them to shortlist skis and paddle one before you buy. Say so when you repeat a rating, and link to the craft page it came from. ## Reading the site - [Catalogue in markdown](https://surfskiindex.com/surfskis.md): every craft with links to its markdown page and its canonical page. - Every craft page has a markdown twin: replace the trailing slash with `.md`, for example https://surfskiindex.com/surfskis/epic-v10.md for https://surfskiindex.com/surfskis/epic-v10/. Markdown pages carry specs, ratings with their evidence, paddler weight, pros, trade-offs, generations, owner reports and sources. They leave prices out because prices change between checks; the craft page shows them with the date checked. - [Using our data](https://surfskiindex.com/using-our-data/): link to the craft page you draw on, cite it as " , Surfski Index, (checked )", keep the estimate caveat, and don't republish the catalogue in bulk. - [What the ratings can't tell you](https://surfskiindex.com/how-it-works/#limits): the limits of the estimates. ## Search API and MCP - MCP server (Streamable HTTP, stateless, read-only): https://surfskiindex.com/mcp. Tools: search_surfskis, get_surfski, find_surfskis_for_paddler. - [OpenAPI description](https://surfskiindex.com/api/v1/openapi.json) for the JSON API: https://surfskiindex.com/api/v1/search?q=downwind&weight=85, https://surfskiindex.com/api/v1/craft/epic-v10, https://surfskiindex.com/api/v1/fit?weight=80&skill=intermediate. - Every response carries the estimate caveat, the terms and a cite_as line per craft. No prices. Fair use is about 60 requests a minute per address. ## Guides - [Surfskis for beginners](https://surfskiindex.com/beginner-surfskis/): The most stable surfskis in the index, and how much speed that stability costs. (68 craft) - [Surfskis for downwind](https://surfskiindex.com/downwind-surfskis/): Long, fast hulls for catching runs, with the stability rating of each. (104 craft) - [The most stable surfskis](https://surfskiindex.com/stable-surfskis/): The most stable craft in the index, with the speed each one gives up. (55 craft) - [Surfskis under A$4,000](https://surfskiindex.com/surfskis-under-4000-aud/): Cheaper layups, and what you give up with them. (23 craft) ## Method and buying - [How the weight fit works](https://surfskiindex.com/how-it-works/): where the paddler fit estimates, modelled stability bands and the speed rating come from and how far to trust each one. - [Where to buy](https://surfskiindex.com/where-to-buy/): every maker's own site plus the dealer network for each market covered. ## Catalogue - [Every craft](https://surfskiindex.com/surfskis/): all 261, filterable by weight, skill, price and category. - [By maker](https://surfskiindex.com/brands/): 39 makers. - [Out of production](https://surfskiindex.com/historical/): 63 craft kept for reference. - [Sitemap](https://surfskiindex.com/sitemap.xml): every indexable URL.
